Wangenbourg-Engenthal

Wangenbourg-Engenthal is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.

Geography

Called the Swiss of Alsace because of the similarity of its landscapes and its dispersed habitat, the commune gathers various hamlets: Engenthal-le-Bas, Engenthal-le-Haut (forming the old commune of Engenthal), Wolfsthal, Obersteigen and Wangenbourg. Located in the Vosgean massive , its culminating point is Schneeberg (961 m). The secondary road 218 which connects the valley of the Bruche to Saverne constitutes the backbone which connects the various hamlets. The river the Mossig takes its source on the communal round of applause.

A line of coach serves the commune in several stagnation points. The station nearest is located at Molsheim.

History

November 1st, 1974, the commune of Engenthal amalgamates with that of Wangenbourg to become Wangenbourg-Engenthal.

Economy

Classified green station of holidays , Wangenbourg-Engenthal primarily draws its resources from tourism. 300 km of paths of hiking, 120 km of paths VTT, 75 km of basic ski slopes, an important and varied offer of lodging contribute to make commune so much a famous tourist resort on a regional level (300 second home) that internationally.

To still note the presence of some sawmills in activity; Wangenbourg is on the road of wood .

The commune still has some trade and local services: bakery, station, butchery, banking agency. An elementary school accommodates some classes, but the schoolboys must go to Wasselonne and the high-school pupils depend on Saverne.

Personalities related to the commune

Gabriel Hanot was one of the best French sporting feathers of the XXe century. It actively helped with the adoption of professionalism in 1932 and put at the world the Cut of Europe of the European champions. It passed the end of its life to Wangenbourg where it was buried there.

Charles de Gaulle lived in Wangenbourg.
