Walter Mr. Schirra
Walter Marty Schirra Junior , known as Wally Schirra (born the March 12th 1923 and dead the May 3rd 2007), is a American Astronaute .
Biography
Wally Schirra entered to the Naval Academy of the United States in 1942 and accepted a diploma for the occupation of engineer in 1945. During the war of Korea it carried out 90 missions of combat on F-84 and was credited with the unquestionable destruction of a hunter MIG more one probable. Of 1952 with 1959, it was Test pilot for the marine where it worked with the development of missiles and planes. It was then selected in the first group of astronauts, within the framework of the Programme Mercury. Wally Schirra took its retirement of Navy with the rank of captain, left NASA in July 1969 and became at the same time consulting for great American media and business man.
Flights carried out
- October 3rd 1962: it controls Mercury 8 during a flight of more than 9 hours, beating the record of the time and becoming the 9th man in space (the 5th American, 3rd to orbit around the Earth).
- December 15th 1965: Ordering vessel Gemini 6, it carries out the Docking in space between two manned vessels.
- October 11th 1968: Ordering vessel Apollo 7, it belongs to the first American crew of 3 people, and becomes the spationaut to have flown on 3 different models of vessel.
