Walter Gilbert (March 21st 1932) is a biochemist, doctor, pioneer of the Molecular biology and American contractor .
Gilbert is born with Boston in the Massachusetts. He studies with the Sidwell Friends School , the Université Harvard and the Université of Cambridge. With Allan Maxam it develops a new method of the sequencing of DNA. Its approach to try the first synthesis of the Insuline failed in front of that of Genentech which preferred to rather use a gene built starting from the Nucléotide S than starting from a natural source.
It obtains the Nobel Prize of chemistry with Frederick Sanger “for their contributions concerning the determination of the sequences of bases of the nucleic acid ”. Gilbert is also the inventor of the name Hypothèse of the world with ARN , the concept even having been discovered him by Carl Woese in 1967.
