Walter Burniat

Walter Burniat born with Péruwelz on December 30th, 1894, died in 1944 with the camp of Nordhausen is a former resistant Belgian and a resistant Walloon.

French professor at the average School of Laeken, he became general secretary of the trade union of the average schools of Belgium just as the secretary of the Belgian League of education in the open air.

He engaged in Resistance while adhering to the movement Wallonia Libre. He worked regularly at the editorial board of clandestine free Wallonia with in particular Maurice Bologna, Georges Dotreppe, Robert Nemery… and with the Front of independence. He is made prisoner first once by the Nazis because of the escape from his Jacques son from Saint-Omer. He is stopped one second time for act of Walloon resistance He was interned with the concentration camp of Nordhausen from where he did not return.
