Wilhelm Heinrich Walter Baade (born on March 24th 1893, dead on June 25th 1960) was a German Astronome , which emigrated with the the United States in 1931.
It profited, during the war, of the blackout which reduced the luminous Pollution to the Observatoire of the Mount Wilson to observe the center of the Galaxie of Andromède and to solve it out of stars. These observations led it to define the stellar populations.
It in 1944 showed that Andromède was not a Nébuleuse but a Galaxie.
He also discovered the existence of two types of Céphéide S, and also identified the Nébuleuse of the Crab as being the Rémanent of supernova of 1054 of which he identified the optical counterparts and radio S.
He also discovered 10 Astéroïde S, among which (944) Hidalgo.
