Walt Disney Entertainment Home
Walt Disney Home Entertainment in the past named Walt Disney Home Video is a distributive firm of film founded in 1980 by and for the Walt Disney Company. The distribution however is ensured through Buena Vista Entertainment.
This company is known because its logo appears on almost all films of often front Disney even that of Walt Disney Pictures. Disney DVD is an emanation of this company and makes it possible to differentiate the DVD from Disney of those of the other companies.
History
Beginnings of the video
Before Walt Disney Company does not publish on video-cassette S its films, it granted a license to Discovision to publish on Laserdisc compilations of short films and programs televised (series of the emissions of Walt Disney). The first titles were published with the the United States the December 16th 1978 and included/understood One Vacation with Mickey Mouse and Friends .Little time after in 1979, Disney tested formed it Fotomat but that remained without a future.
It is the following year which the video division of Disney was created with at its head Jim Jimirro. The first titles were to publish in October 1980 on supports Betamax and VHS. One could find at a price bordering already there the 100 $: The Apple Dumpling Gang , 20.000 miles under the seas , Mary Poppins , the Black hole , a love of Ladybird , Davy Crockett, King off the Wild Frontier , Davy Crockett and to rivet Pirate , Escape to Witch Mountain .
In 1981, again titles appeared of which: The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band , The North Avenue Irregulars , has Dream Called Walt Disney World , The Watcher in the Woods .
This same year, Disney publishes the first compilations of cartoons with Goofy Over Sports , One Vacation with Mickey Mouse and Friends , has Bruises Two Critters off, The Adventures off Chip Does not pave and some autres.
It is only in June 1981 that left the first cartoon Disney in video but in hiring only: Dumbo . It was followed little time afterwards by the Adventures of Winnie the bear cub then Alice to the Country of the Wonders in October but always in hirings. In 1982 these titles were sold in the trade. The following cartoon Robin of Wood was published only fine 1984.
In 1983 Disney launches the collection Walt Disney Cartoon Classics with short films.
In July 1985, Disney established a record of sale with the exit in video of Pinocchio .
In 1993 Disney publishes for the first time a cartoon directly in video, it is the Return of Jafar, a continuation of Aladdin.
All the cartoons are numbered according to their years of exits to the cinema or directly in video. This classification in force on the VHS was taken again and continued on DVDs.
The revolution of the DVD
The first titles published in DVD by Disney were available in December 1997 very little time before the true impetus of this support. Disney had announced as of the September 4th 1997 which it would take part in this new format.Disney published some titles starting from 1998 but it is especially starting from 1999, thanks to the democratization of readers DVD (of PC and living room), that a phenomenon started. Helped by the possibility of associating supplements (called no-claims bonus) with the Disney films launched out in the republication of all its films in DVD.
Disney joined in January 2007 the American Kennel Club to provide no-claims bonus on the education of the Golden Retriever S at the time of the exit in DVD of Air Bud (1997). These no-claims bonus were approved by American association ().

- one can note a particular box, L Anthologie published for Fantasia with two films and a disc no-claims bonus baptized the Genèse
Collections
With the editions of cassettes and especially DVDs, Disney launched to organize the sale of the collections. But this denomination became more and more a simple trade name without real value moreover of the errors exist on certain packing.
- Chefs of Works they are the " meilleurs" films of Disney. They are published in special version. See below.
- Great classics they are the films having left with the cinema.
- Classiques they are pricnipalement films with less success and ever left to the cinema. The majority of the film continuations belong to this collection
- Video Home is the initial collection disappeared from films before the installation of the other collections about the year 2000.
- Disney * Pixar gathers films realized by Pixar and products by Disney.

The DVD Collectors Chiefs of Works and Treasures Disney
Disney launched in the year 2001 two particular collections the Chefs of Works and Trésors Disney .
Collectors Chiefs of Works
The Chefs of Works are editions Collector (two DVDs of which one of no-claims bonus) of large films of Disney launched as from 2001 at the time of 100 years of Magic, a ceremony celebrating the 100e birthday of the birth of Walt Disney. Every year Disney was to publish towards the end of October new film in Collector version. The first was White-Snow and the 7 dwarves in 2001. The name of this edition in the United States and Canada east Platinum .In 2003 Disney modifa its calendar of exit to add 10 additional titles for a total of 14.
The calendar with the dates initially envisaged:

- October 2002: Sleeping Beauty
- October 2003: the King Lion
- October 2004: Aladdin
- March 2005: Bambi (instead of October 2005)
- October 2005: Cinderella (instead of October 2007)

- October 2006: the small Siren (instead of October 2008)
- February 2007: Peter Pan
- October 2007: the Book of the jungle (instead of October 2006)
- February 2008: 101 Dalmatiens (instead of October 2010)
- May 2008: Aristochats
