Walloon Rénovation is a federalistic movement Walloon founded in 1945 by Robert Royer and anxious to affirm the place of the catholics in the Walloon Mouvement. In addition to Robert Royer, one finds in his founders of people like Léopold Genicot, Jacques Leclerc, Felix Rousseau. The members of the movement take part in the Walloon National congress held in Liege October 20th and 21st 1945. The group is however opposed to the Walloon National congress (1946) held in Charleroi with the project suggested by the assembly which wants to make of Belgium a Confédération with the right to the secession related to this legal status. In fact this question of the right of secession will be removed proposal for a revision of the Constitution deposited by lmes parliamentary Walloons (except the catholics), and whose catch in consideration was rejected by the parlementraires Flemish and of Brussels.

Opposition to Léopold III

Another member of Walloon Restoration, the lawyer Jean Dabin will give wrong (for constitutional reasons) to the king Léopold III in the business of the rendering signed at the conclusion of the Bataille of the Lily in May 1940. This opinion was supported besides by another close relation of the movement, the canon Jean Dermine, in a letter sent to another militant of Walloon Rénovation the future Prime Minister Jean Duvieusart, a letter which will be published in the press, on March 10th, 1950, the two days before of the Popular consultation. The day before the outcome of the royal Question, whereas Wallonia is in full insurrection, Robert Royer publishes an official statement evoking unbearable the brimade undergone by the Wallons. Several members démissonnèrent following this official statement of which the burgomaster of Namur, Louis Huart.

Convergences with the left of the movement walmlon

During the years 1950, the movement enters out of night light. but the compromise on the linguistic legislation suggested by the national PSC, starts again its action. Vis-a-vis the General strike of the winter 1960-1961, Walloon Restoration , without condemning the movement in itself regrets excesses of them and continuous to propose a form of moderate federalism. The concern of the movement is besides initially economic, demographic and social. The business of the Fourons is also a stage towards the relaunching of the movement and in 1965 is created a permanent delegation of the Walloon movements gathering the Walloon liberal Mouvement, Wallonia Libre, the Walloon Popular movement and Walloon Rénovation . Another close relation of the movement, the Leclerc canon had published in 1963 the text retentiussantintitulé the catholics and mla Walloon question which, in many Christian mediums, broke what one could call a taboo.

The catholic movement will also play a part in the Rassemblement of the progressists with a man like max Bastin. HE sees several of his members becoming appointed or senators like Jean Goffart with Dining or Lucien Outers in Brussels, respectivemùent on the lists of the Walloon Rassemblement and FDF, but there also exists of other elected officials in traditional parties like Victor Barbeau or Alfred Califice in the rows of the PSC. One could say a little like the Sister Micheline Libon, in the Encyclopédie of the Walloon Movement (volume III, pp. 1393-1398) that Walloon Rénovation achieved its goal when the Walloon region becomes definitively a federate entity in 1980.
