Walloon petitioning
In the tread of the General strike of the winter 1960-1961, a Central committee of Walloon action was created the June 2nd 1962, associating various movements, federations of parties (socialist and communist) and other organizations. A congress known as of “Walloon Action” meets the March 23rd 1963 with Namur and led to the institution of a Managerial college of Wallonia.
Various associations of the Walloon Mouvement were represented there like the Walloon Popular movement (with André Genot, François Perin…), of Free Wallonia (Simon Passover, Jean Pirotte), of Walloon Restoration (Robert Royer, Lucien Outers), of the Walloon liberal Movement (Jean Van Crombrugge), of the Communists (Jean Terfve), of the Socialists (Hubert Rassart, Freddy Terwagne), of the Christians (Joseph Bercy, Pierre Round slice) and the Started from Walloon unit with Victor Van Michel.
In spite of the hostility of the political Establishment it concluded a Walloon petitioning . In October and November 1963 are collected the maximum of signatures against the adaptation of the parliamentary seats to the figures of the last census, for the introduction of the popular referendum of initiative for a reform of the State, reforms which had been tried on several occasions, in particular in 1947 and 1952 but which had been then rejected by the representatives as well Flemish as of Brussels and then did not seem possible to realize by the traditional political ways.
The petition collected 645.000 signatures including 120.000 of Inhabitant of Brussels, more half of the électrices and voters of the Province of Liege and more of the third of the Walloon voters. Its immense popular success left most of the Establishment political hostile or indifferent, which involved in particular the departure of Fernand Massart of PSB with which it broke definitively.
