Walloon Popular movement
The Walloon Popular movement (MPW) is a Belgian political organization Walloon Mouvement.
Created at the end of February 1961, after the end of the General strike of the winter 1960-1961 against the single Law, by the trade unionist Andre Renard (its first president, until its death the July 20th 1961), with two objectives: reforms of structure and Federalism. Freddy Terwagne, which will be regarded as one of the fathers of the institutional reform of 1970, was also one of the founding members. In 1962, another trade unionist, Jacques Yerna, becomes president about it.
For Georges Dobbeleer (member of the Parti working Socialist, Belgian section of the IVe Internationale, and militant Walloon politico-trade unionist since the years 1950), “ the existence of the MPW prevented fortunately during two or three years that a feeling of defeat is spread among the workers after the end of the strike ”.
