The walk of the English is a considered place of walk with Nice.

Before its urbanization, the littoral niçois was only one stony and deserted band. The first houses were only higher in the grounds.

Starting from second half of the 18th century, the English which took the practice to spend the winter to Nice, often benefitted from the panorama of this coast. At the time one particularly rigorous winter, an surge of beggars pushed the English rich person to propose a useful work to them: the realization of a way of walk.

The municipality, which found the result completely interesting, multiplied the alteration work thereafter. The name of camin dei Anglés was given by Niçois, in the language niçoise, then, at the time of the annexation of Nice by the France in 1860, its Francization was adopted: the walk of the English .

Today

For much, the place became the Promenade or even the Prom' .

Nowadays, the walk of the English is one of the places of visit impossible to circumvent in Nice. It became a place of appointment for all the amateurs of Roller S.

In addition to the many demonstrations (Carnival of Nice, battles of flowers, etc), the walk is famous for its “blue chairs” and its Pergola S, favourable with a very Mediterranean Farniente and with the contemplation of the Baie of the Angels.

Ways

One often characterizes the Walk of the English by the Northern way (with dimensions city, western direction), and the southern way (with dimensions sea, direction is).

The northern Way is on the near total of its layout in 3 ways, except on the level of the airport where one counts 4 of them.

The southern Way as for it is not homogeneous:

  • 6 Ways with height of the airport
  • 5 Ways between Haliotis and the hospital Lenval
  • 4 Ways of Lenval around Grosso/Gambetta
  • 3 Ways until its end with the Quay of the United States.

Town planning

This immense avenue profits from a special architectural work, thus the coating is slightly maroon, of the kiosks and of the pergolas skirts the 8 km of beach, finally the standard lamps are also single.

The Marie of Nice decided to reduce of a way the southern roadway between Haliotis and Grosso to the profit of a cycle track. However this reduction is made motorists azuréens to the great displeasure, especially when it is known that Prom' drains more 100  000 vehicles and which it is very difficult to borrow it because of stoppers.
