Geography
History
It is only recently that one speaks about " Walincourt-Selvigny". Indeed the two communes (Walincourt and Selvigny) linked on October 8th, 1972. Thus this memorable date gave the name to the street linking the two localities. Symbolically, the college was built halfway between the two communes. It is into 2002 that the street parallel with that of October 8th, 1972 (that of the college) will be renamed " street Martin Luther King" in homage to the famous American black militant and on the initiative of Mr. J-P. Gavériaux, local personality. J-P. Gavériaux, old principal of the Villon college, organized a vote of the schoolboys in order to choose the street name (in 2000). The names of Jean Moulin or Pierre and Marie Curie were thus preceded by Martin Luther King what was lived like a formidable dash citizen and of tolerance whose local press largely made the echo.
The city is twinned with a German city: Selm, distance of 483 km. It maintains the close links with the latter. Thus, of many cultural exchanges take place with the establishments of Selm and the college François Villon de Walincourt-Selvigny.
