Waléran Ier de Limbourg

Walram Ier or Waléran Ier de Limbourg , known as Udon , died towards 1082, was count of Arlon of 1052 with 1082, and count de Limbourg of 1065 with 1082. It seems to be wire of Walram, count d' Arlon.

The origin of its family is known little about, it seems that he is member of a collateral branch of the Maison of Ardenne. It is as possible as his/her mother is Adèle of Lorraine, girl of Thierry Ier duke of High-Lotharingie

He is initially count d' Arlon into undivided with his Foulques brother, then becomes only count with dead of this last in 1078.

He married Jutte, girl of Frederic de Luxebourg, duke of Low-Lotharingie and Gerberge of Boulogne, which will give him like wire:

  • Henri Ier (1059 † 1119), duke of Limbourg

This marriage brought to him in dowry the county of Len or Lengau, an old district of the county of Liege. Waléran settled in this ground, and made build a castle that it named Limbourg (= Len-burg ). This castle and the city which surrounds it became the capital of the county of Lengau, which took then the name of county of Limbourg. He was also acknowledged abbey of Saint-Trond, depend on évêché on Metz, that his/her father-in-law had already held, and of which he transmitted the load to his descendants.
