The teams of the Deacons Demon take part in the university competitions organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Wake Forest belongs to division Atlantic Coast Conference.

The nickname of the team was initially Deacons , but following a match vis-a-vis the Duke Blue Devils in 1941, an press article specified that Wake Field played like demons. The two nicknames then were amalgamated: Deacons demon.

The most famous team of Wake Field is that of Basket-ball which qualified twenty times for national tournament NCAA reaching once the Final Furnace in 1962.
