Wadard knight

The knight Wadard is a mysterious character represented on famous the Tapisserie of Bayeux and a Compagnon of William the Conqueror.

The historians think that he was a follower of Odon, the bishop of Bayeux, half-brother of William the Conqueror. He takes part doubtless in the Bataille of Hastings in October 1066, first stage of the conquest Norman of England.

On the tapestry of Bayeux, it is represented with the panel n°40 as being the guard of the stores of the army Norman. Represented with horse, one sees it supervising the officers of mouth, after the unloading in England. Above its head is indicated in Latin  : “  DIFFICULTY: EAST: WADARD   ”, i.e., “  This one is Wadard  ”.
