WNYW
WNYW , called also Radio operator New York Worldwide, was an American radio station in short waves diffusing since Scituate, in the State of the Massachusetts, until October 20th 1973, date on which the group Family Stations acquires it and changes its name into WYFR.
History
In 1931 Walter Lemmon, a radio operator inventor launches a radio station in short waves experimental named W1XAL to Boston. In 1935 it starts to transmit cultural, educational and commercial programs.The September 7th 1939, four days after the declaration of war of the France and the the United Kingdom to the Germany, FCC changes the initials of the radio into WRUL. It is then with the service of the British Security Coordination, located at New York. WRUL iginfi World Radio operator University Listeners. Of 1939 with 1942 the emissions are diffused towards the Europe and the South America in 8 languages, like in the United States thanks to an abstract network of 300 stations, including WNYC in New York. Just like the other American stations in short waves, the US government obtains WRUL an agreement of hiring in November 1942 to increase the diffusion of propaganda. In 1947 WRUL is authorized to take again independent programming partially, and becomes completely independent of the government in 1954. In 1960 it is sold with Metromedia. In June 1962 WRUL is sold by Intemational Educational Broadcasting Corporation (currently Bonneville International), property of the Église of Jesus-Christ of the Saints of the Last Days. The station starts by using the slogan " Radio operator New York Worldwide" and launches out in a contemporary adult format with news bulletins of Radio operator ABC and CBS Radio, as well as his/her station-sister, WRFM (today WWPR-FM). A rumor circulated according to which the station was controlled by the CIA to diffuse propaganda anticommunist. June 1st 1966 WRUL changes its name into WNYW, meaning NR ew Y ork W orldwide
