WJZI (93.3 FM) is a radio station of format Smooth jazz based with Milwaukee, in the American State of the Wisconsin. It belongs to Shamrock Communications, but is part of Milwaukee Radio Alliance, just like WLUM-FM and WMCS.

History

The station is founded in 1973 under the name of WQFM. Its programming is then directed in the rock'n'roll, and, in this field, it acquires a certain domination on the local radios rock'n'roll, and this during one decade. It is then in competition with WJMR-FM until 1979, and with WQBW-FM until in 1983. The reign of WQFRM stops in 1986 when WHQG-FM, become Lazer 103, gives up its format Country Music to convert with the hard rock. The new radio and its morning program dominate from now on the scene rock'n'roll of the city. WQFM then tries to compete with the newcomer. But several talents of WQFM join the concurrent station. It launches out then in a format hard rock, then passes to a more adult rock'n'roll in 1992, before returning to the hard rock. After years of baclées decisions and audiences poor, the owners of the radio change the format in March 1996 and re-elect station WJZI. From now on, the programming is centered on the smooth jazz. In 2005 this radio atteind the 9th place in Milwaukee in term of listeners, then the seventh in 2006.

WJZI is the sponsor of Jazz in the Park, a series in estival concerts being held in Cathedral Square Park, in the center of Milwaukee.
