Wépion

Wépion is a section of the Belgian city of Namur located in Walloon region in the Province of Namur.

It was a common to whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

Of a rural district before the Second world war, Wépion became a residential city.

Wépion is famous for the quality of the strawberries which are put on sale during the season of this fruit. The market of the strawberry developed especially in between two wars and was with its apogee in the Sixties, almost each family cultivated strawberry. At that time, shouted of Wépion dispatched strawberries, until Rungis in France.

Nowadays the activity was strongly professionalisée and one markets there, by the Criée, of the strawberries from May to August.

The tennis player Justine Henin lived a time with Wépion, in edge of Meuse, before settling in the principality of Monaco.
