Vytchegda

The Rivière Vytchegda (in Russian Вычегда ) is a River north of the European Russia and a Affluent of the septentrional Dvina. Vytchegda is long of 1  130  km It takes its source to approximately 310 km of the mountains of the north of the the Ural and runs towards the west through the territories of the République of Komis, then of the Oblast d' Arkhangelsk. It finally throws in the septentrional Dvina to 20 km in the north approximately of Kotlas. Vytchegda is navigable on 959 km in spring, 693 km in summer. Its basin has a surface of 121  000  km ².

The river freezes as from November while starting with the higher course until April-May. In spring the level of the river assembles several meters (of 2 meters to 6 meters with Syktyvkar). It is fed to a total value of 50% by melt waters of snow, surface waters 27% and precipitations 22%. The flow is of 599 m ³ /s in Syktyvkar and of 1160 m ³ /s with the confluence with Dvina.

The Canal Catherine on the court superior of Vytchegda makes it possible to reach the the Volga while passing by the Kama, affluent of the latter. The ships can also arrive to this goal while going up until the junction of the river with Dvina septentrional, then by going up the higher course of this one, then while passing by the Soukhona.
