Vulcano is small a volcanic island of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
It is more in the south of the Wind Îles. It is also the name of the volcano, always in activity. The top of the crater gives a rather impressive sight on the crater itself, the fumerolles of a very sharp yellow and with far the other wind islands. Two ways are possible to arrive at the top of the crater of which one passes very close to the fumerolles. Attention with the odors of sulphurs (inter alia for asthmatic the, cardiac ones, etc), sometimes very intense. The top of the crater is with 390 meters. It is possible to reach foot it, by taking a marked out way, without guide. The access to this way costs 3 EUR. It is necessary to count approximately 2 hours of excursion. At the seaside is sand beaches black as well as thermal springs (of which the temperature varies approximately 35°C with 50°C according to the places), feeling very extremely sulfur but having therapeutic virtues. In spite of the stink of the places, the activity is impossible to circumvent (cost: 3 EURO). This sulfur odor can remain on the body during several days, being noticed especially in perspiration.
Situation
Vulcano is located at the north of the Sicily and it is more in the south of the Wind Îles. It measures 21,2 km ² and culminates with 499 meters.

The volcano
The last violent eruption of Vulcano goes back to 1890. Since this date, the volcano remains in activity and is the subject of a constant monitoring.
The Fumerolle S located at several places of the island prove that the volcanic activity is not extinct. It leaves there in particular the Sulfure of hydrogen, which forms yellow crystals at the exit of the mouths.
It is possible to make the rise of Vulcano. The access to the way is free and the hard stiff rise a good hour. It is possible to make the turn of crater to foot but the access to the zone of emission of the Fumerolle S is strongly disadvised. The descent at the bottom of the crater is possible.
The foot of the volcano of large natural basins allow to take sulfurous mud baths. Attention, it is disadvised remaining too a long time in these baths, because sulfur can have harmful influences on sterility and fruitfulness, it is at least what is indicated in the recommendations of the guides.
On the island also a very beautiful sand beach volcanic black is.
A place of the island is called the " Valley of Monstres" , located not far from the volcano. In fact they are very old slag projections which formed of the tortured natural silhouettes. This " vallée" can be a goal of walk after the rise of the crater.
