Vuache
The Vuache is a mountain in the south-east of France in the department of the Haute-Savoie, close to the border Suisse (the nearest city in is made Geneva). In north the the Jura with in the medium is the passage of the the Rhone to the Fort the Lock and south-east the the Alps. The mountain culminates with 1105 meters, and with the Salève delimits the French Genevese.
The mountain of Vuache is located at the west of Haute-Savoie; it belongs at the southernmost end of the high chain of the Jura, from which it is separated by the cluse from the the Rhone. It is about a narrow link of 14 km length and 1,5 to 3 km broad, directed NW-SE. Its altitude varies from 325 m on the level of the Rhone up to 1101 m at the top above Chaumont. It consists of grounds mainly limestones with some localized morainic deposits. The existence of a fault accompanied by a setback of approximately 500 meters, skirting side SW, is at the origin of a strong dissymmetry between its two slopes. The western side is presented in the form of a cliff succession limestones heats which contrasts with the wooded soft slopes fresher of the Eastern slope. Vuache presents a remarkable geology, in particular because of existence of a major fault of which the " mirror " (plan of sliding motion) is locally quite observable. The northern shoulder of Vuache, in overhang of the procession of the Lock, is in classified site.
Vuache falls under the continuity of the vast unit formed by the high chain of the Jura, Étournel and the procession of the Lock, which is of major ornithological interest overall. It belongs to the ZICO RA 14 " High chain of the Jura: procession of the Lock, Étournel and mount Vuache ".
Among Galliformes, the Hazel grouse niche on the mountain of Vuache, where she preferably attends mixed timberings of peak.
With regard to the raptors, the Peregrine falcon niche in several points of cliffs of the western slope; the Large-duke of Europe is also present, nesting in the northern part of these same cliffs. The Golden eagle, Circaète Short-toed eagle and the Falcon small landed proprietor use the sector like hunting ground. The nesting of Circaète Jean-le-Blanc on the site remains to be confirmed. Black Milan and Bondrée apivore would nest for their part on the Vuache mount or its peripheral basis
Moreover, the peaks north of Vuache until the depression of Golet of Pey (800m) constitute, as well as the procession of the Lock, an important path migration for the birds, with the autumn and spring. It is an essential migratory narrow part for the raptors (one of the thirteen principal sites identified for this reason in France), since more than 20.000 birds of prey are regularly entered there in the passing, mainly: Adjustable nozzle (< 14.000 individuals), Bondrée apivore (< 5000), black Milan (< 4000), royal Milan (< 2000), Sparrowhawk of Europe (< 800). But of other migrating can be observed such as white Cigogne, black Cigogne, ashed Grue, ashed Héron, Grande Brush or of the sparrows: Lark excentric, Skylark, Pigeon wad, Thrush litorne, Ring ouzel…
