According to certain sources, there is not true a Vampire in the Greek tradition. What resembles it more is the vrykolakas (and not vrykolaka ) (in Greek modern: βρυκόλακας vrikólakas , also translated broucolaque ). It should however be noted that Vrykolakas spreads an extreme terror and is well a body ghost (in opposition to a spirit or an immaterial spectrum), and that the methods to get rid some correspond closely to those used for the vampires in the Slavic Balkans and countries.
The vrykolakas would be very close to the nightmare ( cauquemar , Cauque-mar ) a French spirit having given the term of the close name.
For a French-speaking source on the vrykolakas, to seek the report of the exorcism of such a creature on Mykonos makes by Joseph Pitton de Tournefort at the beginning of the XVIIIe century
