Vouziers

Vouziers is a common French, located in the department of the the Ardennes and the area Champagne-Ardenne.

Its inhabitants are Vouzinois.

Geography

The city is sprinkled by the Aisne and is served by a branch of the Canal of the Ardennes.

Located at the doors of the of the Ardennes Argonne, in edge of the of the Ardennes Peaks, the Champagne, and with two steps of the solid mass of the Ardenne.
Located at 50 km (about) of Charleville-Mézières (prefecture of the department), of Sedan (strong Castle vastest of Europe), of Rocroi, Rheims (city of the Sacring S of the Kings de France), of Châlons-in-Champagne, Varennes-in-Argonne (Louis XVI was stopped there).
The old commune of Sainte-Marie was integrated into Vouziers.

History

With the the Middle Ages, the city was a crossroads of the markets of corn.

François I {{er}} in April 1516 restores fairs and gone and thus ensures the prosperity of the City.

The aviator Roland Garros killed at the time of an aerial combat in October 1918 is buried there.

Czechoslovakian Legions during the First World War of the future 1st President Tomáš Masaryk (monument); a college received its name in homage there.

Paul Verlaine was considered, condemned to the court, and was imprisoned in the city.
