Vourles

Vourles is a common French, located in the department of the the Rhone and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Its inhabitants are called Vourlois.

Vourles is a commune of the Western Southern suburbs of Lyon.

Set up in commune at the end of the 18th century. Old Stronghold S of the “Strong House” and Epeisses, property of the Relative family. In 1831, Louis Querbes, Cleaned of Vourles (1793 - 1859), founded the Congrégation Clercs of Saint-Viateur.

Personalities related to the commune

Large mathematician French of the XVII E century, it will pose the bases of the projective Géométrie. Friend of some Descartes, it also had Blaise Pascal like disciple. To advise Richelieu, this genious geometrician is also musician and architect (he is the author of famous the large staircase of the Town hall of Lyon). Owner of the “field of the Rock”, in Vourles, it receives there the great minds of his time and works there far from Lyons and Parisian agitation. Painter landscape designer and animalist of the Lyons School, it resided at Vourles of 1830 to 1850. At the time of its stays in its country house (the current Lestra property), it engraved, drew and paints landscapes of our village and its surroundings. Its works appear in the Palais Saint-Pierre, with the Historical Museum of Lyon, with the Museum Napoleon of Arenenberg (Germany) like in the room University (the Philadelphia-USA) Cleaned parish of Vourles during 37 years, it founded the Clercs of Saint-Viateur in 1831, religious congregation in charge with the teaching and the education of the young people (catechesis and liturgy). It counts a thousand of members divided into 13 country; its head office is with Rome.
