Vombatidae
The family of the vombatidés ( Vombatidae ) is the family of the wombats , also called phascolomes (of Latin phascolomis , “ rat with poche ”, deriving itself from Greek roots, E. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1802-1803). One finds exceptionally the orthographies vombat , humbac and hombac .
The wombat is a Marsupial which lives in the mountainous Forêt S of Australia, where it digs vast Terrier S. the wombats resemble small brown and massive Ours ons, to short legs and broad head.
Like all the marsupials, it has a pocket on the belly, but his is opened by bottom (what with the advantage of preventing that the ground does not penetrate there) and comprises only one pair of udders.
The wombat is Herbivore, being nourished of grass, roots and bark of tree. Its teeth have a continuous growth.
It is a heavy animal from 15 to 30 kg, it exists two about it sortes : common wombats (like that of the photograph), and wombats with the hairy nose.
It can reach the speed of 30 km/h.
Its rear-axle unit is very powerful. It makes use of it in particular to crush its adversaries against the walls of its den.
