Volvo 244 “Blue Star”

The Volvo 244 Blue Star was born in 1978. It is about a Volvo 244DL equipped with some equipment reserved for version GL. It was reserved for the markets of the Benelux and Scandinavia. A slightly different version was proposed at the German market under name 244 DLC.

Indeed, since 1978 Volvo operated an improvement of its series 240 and 260, by offering a grill with square fires to the front one, and a face postpones rounder. Previously, although substantial modifications were operated with the frame, the body was the direct heiress of series 140 born in 1967, that is to say 9 years earlier.

Let us recall that model 242 (truck 2 doors) was proposed in versions L and DLL, and that models 244 (truck 4 doors) and 245 (station-wagon 5 doors) were proposed in versions L, DLL and GL.

The versions L were characterized mainly by the engine: the B19A, of a cubic capacity of 1986 cm ³, with a Carburizing , and developing 66 kw. The interior equipment was Spartan.

Versions DLL relate to also mainly the engine: B21A, of a cubic capacity of 2127 cm ³, with a carburettor, and developing 74 kw. The interior equipment is improved with the presence of a watch, additional vacuum-pockets…

Versions GL relate to not only one more powerful engine, the B21E, of a cubic capacity of 2127 cm ³, with injection, developing 90 kw, but also the equipment: leather seats, Rev counters, rim S broader, power-assisted steering, and “overdrive” on the 4th speed.

Volvo decided to finish the life of the 244 of first version by creating an intermediate model between version DLL and GL. If the motorization remains that of version DLL, the equipment is that of the DLL with the following improvements:

Blue Star was manufactured to a hundred specimens in the Benelux countries. It remains ten in circulation about it.

To note that the version “Blue Star” was marketed in Germany and in the Scandinavian countries under name 244 DLS. The Gear box was systematically equipped with a “overdrive” Lockheed (M46) whereas this was an option on the model marketed in the Benelux countries, where it was marketed equipped with a box with four reports/ratios (M45).
