Volvic (mineral water)

Volvic is a mark of mineral Water pertaining to the group Agroalimentaire French Danone, division Eaux .

Its source is at Volvic in the Département of the Puy-de-Dôme, area Auvergne.

  • Volvic allows an increase in urinary volume and thus in the Diurèse, which allows a good washing of the renal cavities and urinary tracts, as well as a good waste disposal.

History

With the the Middle Ages, the city of Volvic was re-elected for the exploitation of its stone.

The inhabitants of Volvic and the close hamlets supplied themselves out of drinking water in the fountains supplied with various sources. The principal one was the source of Saint-Priest. Collected in 1467, it is located in the borough, places Large Fontaine.
The monks played a big role in the establishment of these fountains.

In 1883, one which been able to note a multiplication of fountains and laundrettes; all the districts of Volvic were served but the problem of water therefore was not regulated. Water very often missed with the back season, moreover this water proved to be of bad quality and of many diseases prevailed at Volvicois.

For this period, important work of collecting made it possible to increase the flows. The search for a drinking water, more abundant and purer was posed with more acuity with the inhabitants of the commune.

Legay Knight; contractor volvicois, discovered the first this treasure, with the locality the Valley of the Narrow part . In spite of efforts constantly renewed and the many difficulties as well technical as financial, it could not carry out its incredible project: its death, in 1915, left outstanding the generous idea of adduction out of drinking water for the commune and the installation of a public lighting.

In 1927, on the initiative of Doctor Moity, mayor of the commune of Volvic which had to face an epidemic of Poliomyélite, geological investigations which resulted in digging a 700 m length underground gallery, releases an important water way, at once called source of the Narrow part. The collecting of the Narrow part allows the water supply of the commune.

A local company carries out in 1938 the first marketings of this water. Water is classified Spring water.

The group Saddler Leblanc created the Company of water of Volvic in 1958. In order to increase the production, of drillings to the Puy of Nugère take place in 1961 and which lead to discovered source Clairvic which will be classified in 1965, natural mineral water by the Ministère of Health. The company Volvic ensures the setting out of bottle.

Volvic diversifies in 1966 by putting on the market a drink at the fruits Oasis .

In 1969, the traditional bottle out of glass leaves its place to a plastic bottle PVC.

A new factory of congestion is built in 1974 with the Chancet with Volvic.

In 1984, the group Perrier takes of control of the group Sellier Leblanc , which will yield in 1990 the mark Oasis to Cadbury Schweppes. Volvic innovates while being the first to put on the market a mineral water aromatized at the natural fruit extracts. Three years later, Volvic joined the group BSN which will become in 1994 the group Danone. The same year, Danone launches a new gas natural mineral water: Arvie and Volvic obtains certification AFAQ according to the international reference frame ISO 9002 for all its production lines and all the destinations of its forwardings.

In order to maintain and to make known the benefits of water, Volvic opens in 1995 the center Volvic for research on the Oligo-élément S (attribution of research grants).

In 1998, the department Evian Volvic Développement markets the various marks of the French sources of the Group Danone.

The classification natural mineral water of the source Clairvic is renewed in 2000 by the Ministère of Health. This year there, Volvic invents the tap of mineral water at the house , Volvic Fontaine , a bottle of 5 liters ready with employment with a tap-press to fill its glass. The bottle will be proposed in 8 liters in 2003.

  • 700 people work out of the 3 sites adding up 12 production lines which carry out 1 billion bottles produced per annum, that is to say 4 million bottles produced per day.

  • 52% of forwardings goes to export (Germany, Japan, Ireland, Great Britain). Volvic is marketed in more than 65 countries
  • the whole of the installations covers a surface of 70.000m ². 18 quays of loading ensure the logistics of the sites, like 11 km of railways.
  • Volvic must be exemplary at the environmental level, thus 90% of its waste are recycled.
  • From April at October, the Volvic factory organizes visits of its sources and factory of congestion.
