Volvic (in Occitan Vorvic ) is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area of Auvergne.
Its inhabitants is called Volvicois.
The commune is located at 14 km in the North of Clermont-Ferrand. Volvic, includes/understands a borough of approximately 2600 inhabitants, three large Village S; Crouzol, Moulet-Marcenat and Tourtoule, including/understanding approximately 1200 people, and thirteen locality of approximately 500 inhabitants.

The first mention of Volvic would date from the 5th century. Saint Priest, bishop of Clermont there was assassinated and buried at the 7th century.
Volvic was the chief town of the Viscount of Tournoël, Château mentioned at the 10th century, possession of the count d' Auvergne, confiscated by Philippe Auguste.
In January 1790, apart from the single canton of Riom (divided today into Riom-Is and Riom-West), it had been instituted a canton of Volvic also gathering communes of the current canton of Riom-Is; it was removed under the Consulat in 1801. The commune of Volvic depends from now on Canton on Riom-West.

Stone-built house : Scénomusée located in old a career, in the middle of lava flow of the volcano of Nugère (993 m). It presents in situ the extraction of the stone of Volvic employed since XIIIe century in the construction of the buildings of the neighborhoods.

As of XIIIe century, the exploitation of the Andésite (or Pierre de Volvic) started in mines, currently closed but of which one can be visited ( Stone-built house ). The rock is characterized by its hardness, intermediary between the Marbre and the Granite, and by the gray-black color which it takes during an exposure prolonged to the Sun. Stone quarries, only to open sky nowadays, Lave left materials used in the construction nombeaux buildings of Clermont-Ferrand (of which the Cathédrale), and in a good part of the Auvergne (Riom, and even Saint-Flour or Salers). The stone was also used in Sculpture.
After the apogee of the XIXe century and beginning of the XXe century, the andesite of Volvic is useful now especially in the funerary field, the embellishment of the buildings, the sculpture, the Lave enamelled. As from the XXe century, these qualities of resistance to the majority of the Acide S made of it a Matériau used also by the Industrie. The Stone-built house was open to make discover the history of this exploitation.
