Volutina

In the Roman Mythology, Volutina (of Latin the volutare , “to be rolled up”) was an agrarian goddess attached to Cérès, person in charge of the envelopes which protect ears from cereals.

One knows this goddess in the writings of Saint Augustin, when it enumerates the agricultural divinities whom it finds futile ( the City of God , L.IV). It is to be brought closer to the divinities devoted to the formation of corn ear: Patélana, Nodutus, Hostilina, Flora, Lacturnus and Matuta.
