Medieval and modern time

The city was one of the 3 podestariats (residence of a Podestat ) and a capitanat of the République of Genoa; its prosperity was due to the industry of the paperboard (including agglomerated or chewed paper statues). She was proclaimed quoted by royal decree in 1903. In 1926 the fascistic authority incorporated it in the Grande Genoa.

Its center is around the mouth of the torrent Leira (the October 7th 1970 a catastrophic flood)
