Volta (river)

The Volta is a river of central Africa and western which is thrown in the Golfe of Guinea. It is formed by the junction of the Volta Noire (today: Mouhoun), the White Volta (today: Nakambé) and the Red Volta (today: Nazinon). This river formerly gave its name to a country, the the Upper Volta, before it takes the name of Burkina Faso in 1984.

The lake Volta , more the artificial big lake of the world, extends from the Barrage Akosombo in the south-east of the Ghana to the town of Yapei to 520 kilometers in north. This produced lake of the electricity, allows the river transport, and is a potential resource for the Irrigation and the Pisciculture.
