The Volstead Act is a legislative text in force with the the United States of America of 1919 to 1933, reinforcing the policy of Prohibition.
The prohibition, imposed on the United States of America by the XVIIIe amendment with the Constitution, ratified on January 16th, 1919 and applied as of on January 16th, 1920, is the period during which the sale, consumption, the production and the transport of alcohol were prohibited.
The Volstead Act , established on October 28th, 1919 widens the prohibition of sale and alcohol consumption at the restaurants and the bars. It is of this fact considered as the birth certificate one period turbid, which saw true gangster empires constituting around the Contrebande alcohol. The Volstead Act was amended on February 17th, 1933 by the Blaine Act. This one allowed in particular the sale of not very alcoholic beverage, like light beers.
XXIe fine amendment with the Constitution having put at prohibition on December 5th, 1933, the Volstead Act also disappeared.
