History

Excavations carried out at last century established the presence on Chignore, of very old habitats.

In the year 35 av. J. - C., the Roman way crossing the Auvergne passed by Vollore, not strategic between Arvernes and Ségusiaves (vestiges of the Roman way, limits milliary).

At the time mérovingienne, Vollore was an important place. Its castle was considered impregnable and had its rendering only to the Procule traitor. The Seigniory of Vollore, connects " the house of Thiers" , is attached to the Comté of Drill where it remains until the 16th century. It was composed of the grounds seigneuriales, the borough, the Forteresse of Montguerlhe, the Fief S of Bonnevie, the Barge, Pognat and Vaux.

15th with the 16th history of Vollore knows one dark period. The Peste makes many victims, the inhabitants are placed under the protection of Roch saint. In 1535 they set up the Gothic Croix then renovate the Saint-Maurice church in the Gothic Style.

At the 17th century, the peasants of Vollore gather in communities agricultural S. Some will continue to remain to the paddle of the 20th century.

In year II of the Republic, the grounds seigneuriales of Vollore, sheltering more than 5000 hearts are parcelled out into two common Vollore-Mountain and Vollore-City. After the Revolution, Vollore finds its calm. At the 19th century the commune undertakes large work: repair of the Bell-tower of the church and water conveyance of Chignore. Although agriculture remains its principal activity, the cutlery takes its rise. In 1869, Holy-Agathe separates from Vollore and becomes a new commune.

At the beginning of this century, the borough counted more than 2.000 inhabitants and accommodated largest Foire canton. Little by little the rural migration depopulated our campaigns. Currently Vollore-City springs resolutely towards the Tourisme and the tendency starts to be reversed with the arrival of new inhabitants.
