The Volkswagen Phaeton is a Véhicule Automobile Berline of the German manufacturer Volkswagen.

In the range of the mark it is located at the top. It divides its platform with the Bentley.

To move this door Truck (exceeding the 2,2 tons), the engines proposed are:

• out of gasoline a V6 of 241 ch, a V8 of 335 ch and a W12 of 450 ch.
• in Turbo - diesel V6 of 233 ch (replacing since the beginning of 2007 V6 of 225 ch) and driving V10 of 313 ch. Ce last was withdrawn from the range in 2006.

It is equipped with a automatic box Tiptronic with six reports/ratios, integral transmission 4Motion and a pneumatic suspension. Except for the versions V6 gasoline and diesel, these cars post a maximum speed of 250 km/h, attached electronically. These heavy vehicles (the majority of the versions exceed the 2,3 tons) and surpuissants post naturally a very high consumption, W12 reaching 13 liters for 100 km on road, and exceeding the 25 liters downtown.

A version four places of the type Limousine exists, more succeeded even and luxurious. This version reduces the number of places to 4 seats by adding various electric drives (for the adjustments, electric, of heating and air-conditioning of the seats as well as a function massage available to all the seats) between the two back seats. A version with long footing is also available. This one lengthens the back space of 12cm and offers a sliding roof of series.

Export to the United States ended in 2006 for lack of convincing results.

A restylage is envisaged during the year 2007 to try in a last hope to start again the sales.
