Volkerak
The Volkerak is a stretch of water located in the south-west of the Netherlands, between the provinces of the Holland-Southerner (in north), of the Brabant-Septentrional (in the south) and of the Zealand (in the west).
Volkerak delimits in the south the island of Goeree-Overflakkee. With its north-eastern extremity, the locks of Volkerak make it possible to join the Hollands Diep; to its western extremity, Volkerak communicates with the Krammer.
To the south, Volkerak is connected to the Canal of the Scheldt in the Rhine, which makes it possible to join the port of Antwerp. More to the east, the Dintel and the Steenbergse Vliet are thrown in Volkerak.
For a long time, this stretch of water was strongly exposed to the tides and the storms. Since the realization of the Plane Delta, the sea water became fresh water and one succeeded in attaching the influence of the storms.
