Presentation
Born the December 31st 1926, Voldemort , Lord car-proclaimed, became, for most of the community of the wizards, “That-Of which-One--Must-Not-Pronounce-The-Name”, or “You-Know-Which”, because the only evocation of its name is enough to awake in them an uncontrolled fear. Only seven known people dare to pronounce her name even when they are not forced there: Albus Dumbledore, regarded as one of the largest wizards of all times (and the only one to be fears by That-Of which-One--Must-Not-Pronounce-The-Name), wise and benevolent, which directs the school of sorcery of Poudlard; Minerva McGonagall, professor with Poudlard and assistant editor, in volume 1 (although it is however a little reticent there); Remus Lupin; Sirius Black ; Hermione Granger starting from the volume 5; Ginny Weasley since the volume 6, and paradoxically Harry Potter itself as of volume 1, because it did not grow while learning how to fear this name. Certain characters pronounce his name in all only once the saga, as for example Barty Croupton junior (delivers 4, chapter 35, p. 600 Gallimard) perhaps is this an error of the author or the translator.Attention, the sentence which follows reveals an element of Volume 7.
In volume 7, a person who pronounces the name of Voldemort reveals her position in Mangemorts. It is a name " tabou".
Origins and beginnings - Tom Jedusor
Tom Elvis Jedusor is the true name of Lord Voldemort, wizard of mixed blood. ( Tom Marvolo Riddle )His/her father, Tom Jedusor senior, gave up his mother, Merope Gaunt, before his birth, when he had learned that his wife was a witch who had misled it thanks to a philter of love: this one, indeed had ceased giving him the philter because, according to Dumbledore, " she had had, with time to convince itself that he really liked it and had pity of lui.". She was confined in an orphanage. Despaired and esseulée, Merope Gaunt died one hour after having put his/her son at the world; it had just time to say that it wanted that his/her son is called Tom, like her father, and Elvis, like his grandfather. Tom Jedusor is, by the blood of his mother, the only still alive descendant of Salazar Serpentard, which makes to it to some extent its heir. It remained until the eleven years age in this orphanage; during the years that it passes there, it frightens his comrades while making hang rabbit of the one of them and while flying of the objects belonging to the other children. When Albus Dumbledore comes to seek it to take it along to Poudlard, and to announce to him that he is wizard, an enormous enthusiasm seizes him. He answers with scorn Dumbledore that he knew that he was “somebody of exceptional”, and shown his independence by declaring that he prefers to only buy his school stationery (with the Short cut).
Arrived at Poudlard, it is allowed with Serpentard: the magic Choixpeau had hardly effleuré its head that it sent it to Serpentard. Jedusor did not know yet at this time that he was the heir to the founder even of this House but, according to Dumbledore, he could have even known it as of the evening. It allures its professors: it is studious, conscientious, comes from an orphanage and has “a gift to have what it wants”, like it says it so well in volume 2, Harry Potter and the room of the secrecies . During the years that it passes to the school of sorcery, it makes research assiduous - and useless - on the origins of his father, believer that this one was formerly raises of Poudlard because it thought of his mother that " if it were a witch, it would not be morte" (and ignoramus that his/her father was in fact only a Moldu); he sees himself obliged to assume that his father forever made his studies with Poudlard and that he is even less one wizard. A rage is born thus in him (its heart, then deformed by the fury, is already germinates of it that of the black magus which it will become…), this is why it decided to change name (it did not want to bear the name of a " salt Moldu" who gave up his mother).
It is thus put to carry out research on its “maternal” origins and discovers that it was actually his/her mother who was a witch, downward direct of Salazar Serpentard.
He also discovers that he with the capacity, like his grandfather, of speaking the Fourchelang , the “Language of the Snakes”; consequently occasion, it learns the existence from a “Chambre of the secrecies” in the college, and that “only the heir to Serpentard has the capacity to open this room”. All these revelations bring it, after having discovered all the secrecies the Room of the secrecies, at the time of its sixth year of studies, to open this one, and thus to release the Basilic while ordering to him - in Fourchelang - to track the pupils of Poudlard who would not have “pure” blood (blood-of-bourbe) and to kill them (the Basil can kill out of a simple glance). The monster ends up killing a pupil, Mimi Geignarde. Following this incident, Jedusor, learning that the school threatened to close, makes accept the Ministère Magic that the culprit was Rubeus Hagrid - then raises of third year -, while using as pretexts that Hagrid is in possession of a giant Araignée, Aragog. Thereafter, Jedusor leaves behind him a Diary which contains between its pages its memory, in order to ensure the perpuity of the Room of the secrecies (its diary will fall between the hands from Ginny Weasley which, had by its " souvenir" , the Room will open and will write messages ensanglantés on the walls of Poudlard).
When he arrives at his seventh and last year, he asks to the professor Slughorn information on the Horcruxe S: an object in which one introduces part of his heart after having made a murder. The diary will be first Horcruxe de Voldemort, and it is probably for this reason that this “memory” has the capacity “to think”.
Then, after having made seven years brilliant and having obtained all his TUBE and all his ASPIC , Tom asks for the post of professor of Defense against the forces of the evil which is refused to him because of its young age. He engages then at Barjow and Beurk where he appears a talented salesman, with the envoûtant physique (before creating his Horcruxes - action who will cut down to him will make the heart and it very ugly -, Tom Jedusor was very beautiful and very charming). After that nobody hears any more of Tom Jedusor during a long moment. Then it returns and redemande the post of professor of DCFM at directing Dumbledore lately named of Poudlard. Dumbledore refused categorically. Humiliated and put in anger by this refusal, Voldemort launched probably a curse on the coveted station. Since this day, no professor remained there more than one year.
Later, it goes to the village his parents and keep silent coldly his father, Tom Jedusor senior, like his grandparents.
Rise with the capacity - Lord Voldemort
Tom then becomes one of the most frightening black magi than the Earth carried while taking definitively the title of Lord Voldemort . The name is built by the Anagramme: “I AM VOLDEMORT = TOM ELVIS JEDUSOR” (it allotted itself the title of Lord); in the english language version, " I AM LORD VOLDEMORT = TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE" (the name Voldemort, allowed as being a Portemanteau word French, is used in all the languages, the question of the homonymy of the word remaining “flight” open).
It gathers around him a troop of wizard called the “Mangemorts”. The latter follow it for various reasons: fear, ideological conviction, simple interest, ensorcellement, or quite simply silly thing. This time, where Voldemort was with the apogee of its capacity, is certainly one of darkest for the world of the Magic. Indeed, “the Lord of Darkness” (it is named thus by its servants, Mangemorts) is without pity and does not hesitate to kill any person putting itself across her way.
Severus Rogue, then brings back to him the beginning of a Prophétie: “That which has the capacity to overcome the Lord of Darkness approaches… it will be born from those which by three times defied it, it will have been born when dies the seventh month… and the Lord of Darkness marks it as his equal but it has a capacity which the Lord of Darkness is unaware of… and one of them will have to die with the hand of the other because none them can live as long as the different one survives. ” Being informed only beginning of prophecy, Voldemort sought a newborn at the end of July resulting parents wizard, but two children correspond to the beginning of prophecy, Harry Potter and Neville Londubat. It chooses Harry Potter, seeing in this child who, like, is to him a “half-caste” (not born from a “pure” family of wizard), the baby about which prophecy spoke. But, in the night of the October 31st 1981, whereas it had just killed the two parents of Harry, it is unable to kill this last, its magic spell being turned over against him. Harry becomes thus “the Survivor”, the only one to have survived the magic spell of Mort (the Avada Kedavra), and to have overcome “You-know-which”; nevertheless Voldemort is not completely dead (having created 6 horcruxes according to Dumbledore, it could not die). It tries to find human form while trying to seize famous “the Philosopher's stone”, lasting the first year of Harry with Poudlard. But this last manages of to prevent it, and Voldemort must await the end of the fourth year of Harry with Poudlard to manage to return entirely to the life, thanks to the assistance of Peter Pettigrow which manages to locate it in the Albanian forests where it hid. Nevertheless, once again, Harry escapes to him, and announces on the community of the wizards his return.
In the fifth volume, Voldemort tries to recover the complete prophecy, whose copy is stored with the Ministère of the Magic. But as a prophecy can be revealed only with that or those which it relates to and which it cannot go him even to the ministry which does not believe in its return, it tries to use Harry Potter by controlling its spirit via its dreams, to lead it to go itself in the department of the mysteries of the ministry for the magic. But as opposed to what Voldemort hoped, Harry, in spite of irresistible and increasing desire for achieving the goal to seize the sought object, does not test curiosity to go to the Department mysteries; Voldemort, making use of information recceuillies by the family Malefoy thanks to Kreattur, makes accept Harry, by means of a false vision, which it is itself summoning its godfather to recover prophecy under penalty of Torture, even of Assassinat. Its trick succeeds.
At the end of a Combat opposing the Lord of Darkness to Albus Dumbledore, the two larger modern wizards, it ends up fleeing once more, having failed in its search of prophecy, and once more not having succeeded in eliminating Harry Potter.
Horcruxes
A Horcruxe is an object in which a person dissimulated part of her heart. It can be a question of an inanimate object or an animal. To create Horcruxe, it is necessary to make a murder, which tears the heart, then to lock up the fragment of heart in an object or an animal, using a magic formula. In volume 6 of Harry Potter, one learns that Lord Voldemort divided his heart into seven parts (or Horcruxes ), the number seven referring to the powerful magic; six of the seven “pieces of heart” are preserved in of Horcruxes, the seventh being the piece of heart in its own body. These six pieces (if there are 6 of them, because it is not a certainty) were placed in six different objects. These objects are not unspecified since Lord Voldemort has a leaning fetishist who pushes it to use objects which have for him a strong value symbolic system as of the objects having belonged to the four founders of Poudlard (which was always the place where Voldemort felt at his place).
Voldemort does not hesitate to mutilate its heart with an only aim of appeasing its thirst for Immortalité. It is besides for that he does not die in the former episodes, because there remain always parts of its heart preserved in several Horcruxes. It will be able to die completely only if all its Horcruxes are destroyed.
Dumbledore discovers several of these objects, of which ring of gaunt, large father of Voldemort, that it destroys (at the price of a serious wound to the hand, which like died), as well as the Diary of Tom Jedusor that Harry destroyed during its second year: there would not thus remain more but four about it to destroy. Harry and Dumbledore suppose that these four objects are: a medallion having belonged to Serpentard, a cut having belonged to Helga Poufsouffle, a Diadem having belonged to Rowena Serdaigle or are the sword of Godric Gryffondor and finally the last in the snake of Voldemort, Nagini.
Voldemort makes pressure on Drago Malefoy by giving him the order to kill Dumbledore under penalty of dying with his/her parents. This difficult mission is undoubtedly an act of punishment and revenge after the fiasco on the father of Drago, Lucius Malefoy, at the time of the battle for prophecy with the Ministry.
It is in fact Rogue which kills Dumbledore with the final one. It is not known if Rogue acts then on order of Voldemort or Dumbledore, or according to its own will. However, Rogue was retained by Oath Inviolable that he concluded with the mother from Drago, which obliged it to help this last in all circumstances, including by achieving his task in his place.
After the death of Dumbledore, Poudlard is threatened of closing and Harry Potter decides to leave itself to research these famous Horcruxes.
At the end of the seventh volume, Harry learns that it is itself seventh Horcruxe that Voldemort involuntarily and accidentally created the night of October 31st, 1981. While trying to kill it by the Avada Kedavra in the Prohibited Forest, Voldemort does nothing but destroy itself the fraction of heart which was in the body of Harry.
The completion of the second war
Attention: what follows reveals the intrigue of the last volume!
In the seventh tome cheese of the series, Harry Potter and the Relics of Dead the , Lord Voldemort finally manages to seize the power in the world of the wizards and to apply his program of always.
He kills Rufus Scrimgeour and seizes the Ministère of the Magic, which he controls from now on via a minister Fantoche subjected to the magic spell of Imperium. He takes also indirectly possession of Poudlard while making name his faithful Severus Rogue principal, and while placing Mangemorts specialists in the black Magie at posts of teachers.
Terror abbat on all those which do not have the " Blood-pure " : Blood-with-Bourbes. In the same way, " traitors with their sang" , with the image of Arthur Weasley, are supervised closely and hardly less in danger. The murders, tortures, removals or the rackets multiply against them or many Moldus. The Elves of house and the Gobelins hardly are treated better by the new mode.
In parallel, the Lord of Darkness subjects the magic population to intense a Propagande, since it controls the Gazette of the Wizard and all the media, and that the recalcitrant ones are struck through their families - thus Xenophilius Lovegood must it change its leading line under penalty of not re-examining his/her daughter Luna more, stopped. Posters invite everywhere to denounce its old enemy Harry Potter, treated d'" Undesirable number 1". For better flushing out the members outlaw of the Order of the Phoenix, the name even of Lord Voldemort from now on is bewitched: any enough daring person to pronounce her name Tabou is immediately located by magic, where which it hides.
The terror and the Propagande exerted by Lord Voldemort in this 7th volume are not without transparent analogies with those of the totalitarianisms of the XXe century. Its obsession of the purity of blood evokes in echo the doctrines Nazis and the racial Lois of Hitler and the European Collaborationnistes. The survival of a clandestine resistance which continues to defy Voldemort evokes inmanquablement the Europe under domination Nazi (thus when Hagrid must take the maquis to have oganisé a secret festival of support for Harry, or when the friends of Harry, under pseudonyms, emit an anti-Voldemort clandestine radio broadcast, with the image of the emissions of BBC during the Second world war).
The victory of Voldemort cannot however be complete as long as Harry Potter survives, and that its name rejoins the hopes and the resistant ones. At the beginning of the book, Voldemort tries to kill it little before its 17 years when the Ordre of the phoenix transfers it from the house from the Dursley. During an insane air battle-continuation (where it is discovered that Voldemort can fly), it manages to kill Auror Maugrey Fol Œil. But the rod which it borrowed from Lucius Malefoy fails to make evil with Harry. On the contrary, it is the rod of Harry (binocular of that of Voldemort) which starts a powerful magic spell against the Black Magus, without same as Harry wanted it.
Anxious of this phenomenon, Voldemort tortures the manufacturer of magic wands Ollivander until it reveals to him the jumellity of their rods. It leaves abroad to research the the rod Elder tree, most powerful of the world, presumedly invincible, and which constitutes one of the three Reliques of dead the. He seeks of it the last owner, and keep silent for that the black magus Grindelwald in his prison of Nurmengard. Then it will profane in Poudlard fall it from the winner of Grindelwald and last owner of the rod: Dumbledore, of the hands of which it tears off finally the coveted rod. Later, Voldemort makes kill coldly Severus Rogue, murderer of Dumbledore, by his snake Nagini, to ensure itself to be well the new rightful owner of the rod. Discovering tardily that in its absence, Harry and his/her friends started to seek its Horcruxes, Voldemort returns to check with hiding-places of the latter. He discovers with rage the disappearance of the cut of Poufsouffle, of the ring of Gaunt, the medallion of Serpentard. He delivers involuntarily to Harry, which can always enter in vision its spirit, the hiding-place of the diadem of Serdaigle, next Horcruxe: with Poudlard.
Then come to besiege the school of the wizards, Voldemort invites Harry, at the end of a first very fatal attack, to come to devote itself to him within one hour under penalty of taking again the attack and to kill even more people.
Meanwhile, in the Pensine, the thoughts of late Rogue learned in Harry the truth: it is itself seventh Horcruxe de Voldemort. The night of the murder of the parents of Harry and the destruction of his body, the Lord of Darkness has, without the knowledge, deposited part of his heart in the only body living in the vicinity: that of Harry. Thus are explained connections between their two hearts, or their common gift of the Fourchelang. That implies also impossibility for Voldemort of dying as long as Harry saw…
Also when Harry appears in front of him in the Prohibited Forest, Voldemort can inflict the Avada Kedavra to him without this last resisting. Believing dead Harry (and ignoramus whom it destroyed only the share of its heart which remained in its enemy, 7th Horcruxe) Voldemort presents itself triumphantly to the doors of Poudlard. He announces with all the replacement of all the houses by the only house of Serpentard. He tries to rejoin Neville Londubat and to make a Mangemort of it. But the battle begins again, during which Neville manages to kill Nagini, the Horcruxe last. Voldemort sees falling around him its partisans, like his faithful lieutenante Bellatrix Lestrange.
Then with the rage of Voldemort, Harry reveals that he did not die. The ultimate duel begins in the large hall of Poudlard. Voldemort learns from Harry that Rogue always was on the side of Dumbledore since the murder of his/her mother, that he liked in secrecy. Harry does not hesitate any more to make fun of him, to call it by its true name of " Jedusor" , to scoff its incapacity to learn from its errors, with the first chief his contempt for the Love. He explains to the Black Magus why while sacrificing himself for the hosts of Poudlard as formerly his/her mother sacrificed herself for him without seeking to resist, he made her magic spells malefic pareillement impotent to harm to them. He even encourages it to show remorse as long as he is still time.
Voldemort, anxious, is believed however always invincible as long as it has the rod of Elder tree. But Harry also reveals to him that he is not the true Master, because Rogue forever overcome Dumbledore, it made only kill it according to a beforehand agreed plan between them. The true owner of the rod is Drago Malefoy, which had disarmed Dumbledore - and consequently, Harry itself, which disarmed Malefoy meanwhile.
Refusing to accept it, Voldemort uses again the Avada Kedavra against Harry. Last once, the magic spell is returned to him while its rod to him is torn off hands and falls down in that of Harry. Voldemort dies on the blow. Its capacity crumbles with him, its partisans are stopped or disperse. Its body is carried in a room of Poudlard not to be mingled with those with its victims. The final destiny of its remainders is not specified.
Elements specified by the author
Attention: what follows reveals the intrigue of the last volume!July 30th, at the time of a cat with fans on the site of Bloomsbury, JKRowling specified several things about Voldemort.
-
Harry and Voldemort is in fact parents - very distant connected by Peverells. Of course, the majority of the families of wizard are dependant between them and the blood of Peverells was spread enough.
-
Voldemort recovered its magic wand thanks to Queudver, which had stolen it where it had fallen it house from Potter.
-
the fact that Voldemort cannot include/understand the love is symbolized by the fact that it is resulting from a union without love, it does not have there an arrival in the world more prejudicial. The things could have been different if his/her mother had survived, had raised it and liked.
-
In its arrogance, Voldemort did not believe that somebody would be enough intelligent to discover his Horcruxes. But Régulus nevertheless included/understood why Voldemort was persuaded that it could not die.
-
to make its Horcruxes, Voldemort made the murders of Mimi Geignarde for the Newspaper, of Tom Riddle Senior for the Ring, of Hepzibah Smith for the Cut, a tramp moldu for the Medallion, of the old man to garden of Jedusors for Nagini and an Albanian peasant for the Diadem.
-
Although death is its more great fear, Voldemort could not choose to be a phantom - can be because of its Horcruxes- it is obliged to exist in a form tortured in King' S Cross.
-
Voldemort did not use the occlumancie against Harry because it lost control and was unable to prevent Harry from seeing in its spirit. It forever entirely included/understood the bond which bound them since he did not know that Harry was its Horcruxe last.
-
Bellatrix was always in love with him.

The name of Voldemort
In French, the name given to Voldemort is Tom Elvis Jedusor. In the second book, he explains why name “Lord Voldemort” is derived from the anagram of its name:-
TOM ELVIS JEDUSOR → I AM VOLDEMORT
Like many other names in the novels of Harry Potter, “Voldemort” seems to have a French origin. In fact, one can think that comes from “flight of death”.
In the translated versions of Harry Potter and the room of the secrecies , the name of origin of Voldemort is changed to adapt the anagram in the translated language. On the other hand, in the Polish edition, the translator, Andrzej Polkowski decided anything to change, probably because of the difficulty in translating the anagram so that it corresponds to a judicious sentence. In the Portuguese edition , different from the edition Brazil ienne, the name was not translated either.
