Vodafone Portugal

Vodafone Portugal , a subsidiary company of the group Vodafone Group Plc, is the second operator of Mobile telephony to the Portugal at the same time historically and in term of market shares (34% in 2006). These main competitors are Optimus and TMN.

History

Telecel

Vodafone Portugal is founded in 1991 under the name of Telecel, Comunicações Pessoais, S.A. (Telecel) by gaining the concession like second operator GSM (against its competitor, l operator TMN). The network is officially launched in October 1992.

In 1996, the group launches thus its offer pre-payed (pre-payment) named Vitamina qu´une offers Pager under the mark Telechamada . In May 2000, the company launches its mark Nerc (to pronounce will netcetera ) d´offre of service d´ access to Internet and of Portail Web.

De Telecel with Vodafone

Initially, the principal investors of the group were the bank Banco Espírito Santo, the group Amorim and USA' S Pacific Telesis . This last company was the owner of l operator PacTel Cellular who will be, in 1999, repurchased by l operator English Vodafone. Indirectly by this transaction, the Vodafone group becomes then minority shareholder of Telecel, then majority when the Bank value Espírito Santo and Amorim sell their shares to him. In 2003, the group launches a d´achat offer for l´ensemble of the actions of Telecel and becomes thus l unic owner about it. The company is then famous Vodafone Portugal .

Vodafone

In 2002, whereas Telecel is already controlled by the Vodafone group, this last decides d´utiliser everywhere the mark Vodafone in the world so d´améliorer the notoriety of this one. Telecel is the first operator of the group to change name, this process s´effectuant in three stages:

by adding d´abbord the name of Vodafone following the historical name ( Telecel Vodafone ),
after six months, by exchanging l´ordre names ( Vodafone Telecel ),
finally after six months moreover, by removing the historical name.

The undertaken studies showed that the public n´avait, thanks to this system, makes any confusion and that the mark n´a not suffered from the name change.

In 2002, Nerc is famous Vizzavi following the acquisition of a holding of the group Vivendi Universal. In 2003, the market of the pagers is abandoned. In 2003, Vizzavi is sold with IOL, a subsidiary company of the group of media Capital Media. The Web gate is closed and the company launches Vodafone live! .
