Vocational training certificate
The vocational training certificate ( CAPE ) is a French diploma of secondary studies and vocational training, created by the law Astier in 1919. It gives a qualification of workman or employee qualified (Niveau V) in a given trade.
This diploma is, with BEP, the privileged way of access to the trades of the Artisanat. It is a diploma regularly reformed in order to fulfill the requirements of the professionals. There exist approximately 250 specialities of CAPE in the industrial sectors, commercial and of the services. Certain specialities disappear, but of others are created. The graduates often engage in the working life. They can also continue their studies: a CAPE can be supplemented, for example, by a complementary mention (MC) or by a additional training of local initiative (FCIL). These trainings in one year are modules of adaptation to employment. In certain branches, it can be continued by a professional Brevet (BP, not to confuse with a BEP) and by a control (not to be confused with the university control).
The CAPE covers a field less broad than BEP (although both of level V), obtaining the second sometimes whom can exempt certain tests of the first (example of the BEP Sanitaire and Social for the preparation of the CAPE Early childhood).
Training cycle
The formation is done in Vocational school where one prepares the CAPE in two years after the class of third, or in one year after a first BEP or a first CAPE. It can also be prepared by the way of the Apprentissage or by the Validation of the assets of the experiment (L.335-5 article of the code of education). Lastly, for certain trades, the formation can proceed in specialized private schools; the CAPE is sometimes prepared there in one year or less.In vocational school, the formation associates mainstream educations (enters 14 and 16 hours per week) and technical educations and professionals (between 12 to 5 p.m. per week):
- mainstream education understands of French, mathematics, physical sciences (for the CAPE of the industrial sector and soon for all) of the history and the geography, a living language, a teaching of social life and professional, physical education and sporting. This teaching is intended to provide the bases of a general culture centered on the modern world. The living language gives place only to one optional test.
- technological and professional teaching occupies a little more half of the hours of teaching. It is held in the form of course, of practical works and work in workshop, laboratory or on the building site according to the speciality. It is a question of acquiring the know-how and the technology of the trade.
The preparation of the CAPE can envisage periods of formation in Entreprise, from 8 to 16 weeks currently, according to the CAPE.
The people already having a diploma of level IV or V are not obliged to pass by again the general tests except that of social life and professional.
