The majority of the vocabulary and the concepts of Buddhism are not easily translatable in French, without losing of it all the direction and the range of the original term.

This article lists some Buddhist concepts among most important, a short definition and a translation in the languages where they exist.

The languages and the listed schools recover:

  • the French (france);
  • the Pāli (p.) and the Thai (HT.), used in the gun of Buddhism Theravāda;
  • the Sanskrit (S.), mainly used in Buddhism Mahāyāna;
  • the Tibetan (tib.), of Buddhism Vajrayana;
  • Eastern languages, used in particular in the You chan, the Zen and schools of the pure Ground:
