Voïvodie of Holy-Cross

The Voïvodie of Holy-Cross (in Polish Województwo świętokrzyskie ) is one of the 16 administrative areas (Voïvodie S) of the Poland. Kielce is the chief town of the voïvodie.
The voïvodie was created on January 1st 1999 starting from old the voïvodie of Kielce and part of old the voïvodie of Tarnobrzeg, following a law of 1998 reorganizing the administrative cutting of the country. It is divided into 14 districts ( powiats ) including 1 city having of the rights of district, and 102 communes. The name of the voïvodie refers to the Montagnes of the Holy-Cross.
The voïvodie has a Superficie of 11.672 km ² and counts 1.291.000 inhabitants (at December 31st, 2003). It is located at the center-south of Poland.
The voïvodie of Holy-Cross is located at the south-east of the central part of Poland. It is an area where the mountain borders the plates and the plains, thus offering an incomparable richness of landscapes and climates. One finds there many natural reserves, rock assembly lines, labyrinths of ravines, marshy grounds and lake areas, as of the vast river valleys of which most beautiful are those of the Vistula and Bug. The area is rich in historic buildings. Some, whose convent of the cistercians, are registered on the list of the Routes of the European Culture.
