Voïvodie de Poméranie
The Voïvodie de Poméranie (in Polish Województwo pomorskie ) is one of the 16 administrative areas (Voïvodie S) of the Poland. Gdańsk (in German, Dantzig ) is the chief town of the voïvodie.
The voïvodie was created on January 1st 1999 starting from old the voïvodie of Gdańsk, most of old the voïvodie of Słupsk, of the Western part of old the voïvodie of Elbląg and small pieces of old the voïvodie of Bydgoszcz, following a law of 1998 reorganizing the administrative cutting of the country. It is divided into 20 districts ( powiats ), including 4 cities having of the rights of district, and 123 communes. The name of the voïvodie, which occupies the territory of old the Pomerellie , refers to the historical area of Poméranie ( Pomorze ).
The voïvodie has a Superficie of 18.293 km ² and counts 2.189.000 inhabitants (at December 31st, 2003). It is located at the north of Poland, along the Baltique.
