Vizille

Vizille is a common French, located in the department of the Isere and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

History

Vizille was a strong Ville which was called Oppidum Antiquum . After the Roman invasion, a way passed there, coming from Suze by the Lautaret and the Vallée of Romanche and moved towards Grenoble. Several times the Romans had to give up this passage, pushed back by the warriors Allobroges.

It had become Castra Vigiliae , station military on the Roman way. Possession partial with 10th of the Abbey of Cluny. Taken by the Protestants in XVIe century, then by the catholics. Lesdiguières, become general lieutenant of the Dauphine , acquired the old castle and made it rebuild.

July 21st, 1788, making following the Day of the Tiles (June 7th), of notable of the area of Grenoble (Middle-class man and in particular lawyers) organize the Assemblée of Vizille bringing together 50 priests, 165 noble and 276 representatives of the Tiers State (and among them Mounier and Barnave). The assembly claims the meeting of the General states and their vote per capita (and not by order). Although giving a democratic appearance announcing the French revolution, the Parliament of Vizille is initially the expression of the opposition of the privileged classes to the attempts at reforms, in particular tax, of Brienne.

Accidents

Two accidents of bus among most fatal of France are called " accidents of Vizille" (1973 and 2007). In fact, these accidents occurred on the territory of the commune of Our-Lady-of-Message, on RN85, the road Napoleon , bellow of the Descente of Laffrey is right before the bridge crossing the Romanche and which marks the entry in the town of Vizille.

  • the Castle of Vizille , in the past castle of the Duke of Lesdiguières, it became a residence of the Presidents of the French Republic before being resold to the General advice of Isere. He shelters the Musée of the French revolution of Vizille.

  • the Parc of the castle extends on 100 hectares and includes/understands a Roseraie, trees centenaries, a small train, an animalist park.
