Viviane (Slipper)
Viviane is the title of a Symphonic poem of Ernest Chausson, carrying the number of Opus 5.
It is about the first true orchestral composition of Slipper, old of twenty-seven years when he begins of it the writing in September 1882. The part carries the seal of the joint influence of César Franck and Wagner, from which Chausson came to attend creation this same year of ultimate the opera, Parsifal , with Bayreuth.
Work refers to the Fée Viviane, celebrates it Dame of the Lake which collected Lancelot, but especially with its relations with Merlin in the forest of Brocéliande. Slipper was very enthusiast Légendes arthuriennes, to which it devoted its opera the King Arthus , central and immense work which took years of work to him.
Finished in December 1882, work was dedicated to Jeanne Escudier (whom it was going to marry in June) and was created in the Érard room on March 31st 1883 by the National company of Music directed by Edouard Colonne; in the program in the concert also appeared the creation of the Cursed Chasseur of César Franck. In 1887, Chausson carried out a large reorchestration of its poem, which was created by Charles Lamoureux on January 29th 1888.
