Biography
Vittorio Gassman, was born from an Austrian father and an Italian mother, champion of tennis shoe. After having begun from the studies of right, it turns to the theater while entering in 1943 to the Academy of Dramatic art of Rome. It made its beginnings with the cinema at 24 years in Danièle Cortis of Mario Soldati. Since, its smile charmer and its glance melancholic person did not cease living each film in which it turned. Its character in " Fanfaron" , caricatures truer than natural of Italian dredger-liar-swindler-large-mouth-and-insane-of-wheel will remain in the memories not only thanks to the charisma of Gassman and with the jubilation which it gets to the spectator, but also by sadness that it vainly tries to hide behind his escapades, and that its glance does not cease shouting. How to forget its eyes when it re-examines that which it liked, at the end of " We Somme ourselves Aimés" So much;? Gassman is a clown (is not to prove!), but if it makes laugh, and if it laughs at itself, it is not to cry. Its mouth expresses marvelously these two poles, laughter and tears, sometimes to smile jovial charmer and, sometimes unutterable sadness. Gassman is for this reason the actor emblematic of the Italian comedy, where one leaves the principle which it is better in laughing that to cry about it… even if that is difficult.
