Vittel is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine.

Its inhabitants is called Vittellois.

Geography

Vittel is located at approximately 40 km in the west of the prefecture Épinal, in the district of Neufchâteau.

Served by the highway A31, Vittel is famous for its water and its cures at a watering-place. It is crossed by an affluent of the Vair, Small Squirrel fur.

Blasonnement

Quartered to the 1 and 4 sand and gold rhombus which are of Lignéville, to the 2 and 3 of mouths with two money keys in saltire which is of Remiremont, on the whole of mouths cut wave of gold.

The currency Fonte revivisco ( I live again by a source) evokes the recent prosperity of Vittel since the discovery of mineral water in 1854.

History

Thermal spa attended by the Romans, it is exploited at the time modern only as from 1845.

From May 1941 at September 1944, a “camp of reception” founded by the occupant Nazi gathers several thousands of British and Americans, all civilians, intended to be used as currency of exchange. Vittel is released by the division Leclerc on September 12th, 1944.

  • the Saint-rémy church, whose nave and sides date from 15th and 16th centuries.
  • the Saint-Privat church, set up before the 16th century, at an unknown date.
  • the Saint-Louis vault, set up as from 1910 and named in memory of Louis Bouloumié, founder of the thermal spa.
