Vitteaux
Vitteaux is a common French, located in the department of the Coast-with Or and the area Burgundy.
Geography
Vitteaux, crossed by Brenne, is a chief town of canton populated by more than 1100 inhabitants. Located at an altitude of 335 meters and on a surface of 2070 hectares, Vitteaux is under the good guard of the plate of Myard.
History
In the middle of the Auxois, crossed by water of the Brenne, the small town of Vitteaux preserves vestiges of fortifications, witnesses of a quarrelsome past, and beautiful medieval houses and Rebirth, grouped around the markets of the 13th century. The Bellime house, visible since the place, offers very an good example of medieval architecture with its coupled windows and its massive chimney. Quite as charming, the house with wood sides on the place accommodates the Tourist office. It is necessary to leave main street and not to hesitate to engage in the lanes or to stroll along Brenne to impregnate charm of this borough. * the Hotel Piget , private mansion whose buildings are ordered around a court. On the street, gallery with wood side and staircase in corbelling. The painted ceiling of the first stage of the main building (altered at the 17th century) is also remarkable.

* the tower of Guet , built on an old lathe of the castle (tower of the prison), it offers a superb panorama on Vitteaux and the barred spur of Myard.

* the well , where according to the legend the Vouivre would take refuge.

* the old entry of the castle of which subist more but bases of the two round towers which framed a drawbridge.

Various tourist courses are available to the tourist office. In particular, the night course in the lanes of Vitteaux is a circuit shades and lights with the shadow theater by Christian Boltanski: the houses become animated fugitive silhouettes.
Personalities related to the commune
- Maurice Noirot.
- M.Audiffred (1801 - 1884) which bequeathed 50.000 francs to the city so that Vitteaux had a drinkable water supply. The inauguration took place in December 1891.
