Vitry - the François is a common French of approximately 17  000 inhabitants, located in the department of the the Marne, of which it is one of the sub-prefectures, and the area Champagne-Ardenne. Its inhabitants is called the Vitryats .

Geography

Vitry-le-François is located in the south-east of the Marne. It is served by the line of railroad on the basis of the Gare of the East of Paris.

History

The city owes its name to the king François I {{er}}, which made it rebuild after it had been entirely destroyed by fire in 1544 by the armies of Charles Quint. It was however not rebuilt exactly at the same place, and on its old site (bordering, with the North-eastern of the city) is nowadays the village of Vitry-en-Perthois, which was called formerly Vitry-the-Flaring . Vitry-le-François is also called the “pink City” because of the pink color of its paving stones.

The city carries: of azure to the gold salamander crowned on a blazing inferno of mouths, to the chief also of azure charged with three flowers of gold lily and supported of a currency of very the .
The currency which accompanies this blazon is " Nutrisco and Extinguo " literally: " I support and I anéantis" - VAr. " I live there and I it éteins". The emblem of the salamander in fire as well as the currency are not other than those of the king François Ier (allotted by the tutor of this prince, Artus Gouffier de Boissy).
