One owes his origin with the grounds and castle of the same name at the end of the dioceses of Lodève and of Went. The former lords of Vissec added under their ground, the quality of powerful lords. This title was carried by three bishops in XIVème century and was especially illustrated by the family Vissec de Latude. November 2nd, 1570, Jacques de Montfaucon, lord of Vissec, governing the court of the assistances of Montpellier, becomes First Consul and attends the General states of the province with Beaucaire. Vissec depends on the baronnie of Hierle. August 27th, 1628, the duke of Rohan gives the order to Fulcran II of Assas to completely shave the castle, the houses of the village of Vissec and the mill of Foux. In September, learning that the setting with the biddings of rasement did not give anything, it orders with the viguery of Vigan to send called Carrière with 60 soldiers and 120 pioneers and masons. December 22nd, 1628, Carrière claims the payment of all the expenses of its troop which remained in Vissec until whole demolition. If the defensive ramparts and points were put at bottom, Christophe de Montfaucon, baron de Vissec, baron d' Hierle can still live in what remains buildings. Pierre de Montfaucon makes repair the fortress (Castelas) about 1646. July 22nd, 1654, Pierre de Montfaucon and his band are condemned to death, following all their exactions (assassinations, rapes, plunderings,…). Is added to this judgment, on September 15th, 1655, rasement of the fortifications of Vissec and the filling of the ditches. Dismantling takes place from June 26th to 28th 1656, but Pierre de Montfaucon always runs. He is stopped in 1660 and is imprisoned with the Caretaker's lodge in Paris. Michel de Montfaucon, marquis de Vissec, baron d' Hierle reside at Vigan, but also remain in Vissec, in the part of the feudal castle, refitted in manor, confronting with laying down the place. The current church was built as from 1698, to replace the primitive church destroyed in 1628. With died Anne of Crouzet, widow of Michel Marc Antoine César de Montfaucon, in 1762, Jean Alexandre of the Tower of the Pine of Gouvernet, relative far away from late, inherits the goods and the titles of Vissec, by substitution. In 1792, the goods belonging to Alexandre-César of the Tower of the Pine, marquis de Vissec become national goods. The castle (Manor house) is plundered, one removes all traces of blazons, one smashes doors, as well as the parquet floors of the first stage. Batches are established for the setting with the biddings of the field.
