Vision of Escaflowne indicates a work Japan eases declined on several supports disctincts: a Manga shonen, a Manga shojo, a Animates and a film. The title of the original project is Tenkū No Escaflowne , which results literally in Escaflowne of the Skies.

Short summary of the history

Hitomi , young high-school girl having the gift of Cartomancy, is téléportée in spite of it on the planet Gaïa where it becomes acquainted with the king Van Slanzar de Fanel of the kingdom of Fanélia (going down from the people of the Atlantes) and of the knight Allen Schezar of the kingdom of Astria . Both fight against the empire Zaïbacher on board their guymelefs (kinds of giant armours, of the matched): Escaflowne and Sheherazade . Hitomi is found then in the middle of the conflict.

Topics approached

The history Vision of Escaflowne proceeds in a universe of Heroic fantasy strewn with a peel of technology. In addition to the scenes of combat and through the history, the characters are often tormented and the series approaches a reflection on the following topics:
  • the cartomancy (gift of Hitomi)
  • the knighthood (Allen, Van…)
  • the diplomacy (Gaïa is made up of several kingdoms)
  • the war
  • nature forces of human, violence in general, its legitimacy, its origin

Main characters

; Hitomi Kanzaki: Main character. It is an young girl, sporting, very gifted with the 100m, it is not very sure of itself with regard to its feelings.

; Van Slanzar de Fanel: King of Fanélia and descending from the downward people dragon, themselves of the Telamones. King of Fanélia , it is the only one with being able to control Escaflowne (with which it made a pact of blood) a guymelef of legend builds by Ispano Suiza (Hispano Suiza).

; Allen Shezar: Celestial knight of Astria , large charmer near the fair sex.

; Princess Mirana Sara Aston: Girl junior by the king of Astria , secretly in love with Allen.

; Blackbird: Protected from Van. It is a girl-cat which lost his/her parents in the many wars which ensanglanté Gaïa .

; Dornkirk: Emperor of the empire Zaïbacher .

; Dilandau Albatou: Knight with the service of the empire Zaïbacher .

; Folken Lacour de Fanel: Older brother of Van having betrays Fanélia . Also general of the armies of Zaïbacher .

; Naria and Eriya: Twin sisters, they are woman-leopards, warlike frightening, entirely devoted to Folken which saved them of an unquestionable death.

; Vargas: Fencing master of Allen and Van.

; Yukari: It is land, the best friend of Hitomi.

; Amano: It is land, very good friend of Hitomi. It will attend its disappearance.

Distributed in French by Pika Edition, it takes again in a rather general way the same history that animation but the characters has different appearances. This is due to the fact that the two projects were carried out independently but by using the same general intrigue.

Appeared between April 2002 and August 2003, in 8 volumes.

Animate

26 20 minutes episodes corresponding each one to a mystery of the play of tarot of Hitomi heroin, created by the studios Sunrise in 1995 according to the imaginary World of Vision of Escaflowne and diffused starting from May 1996 on TV Tōkyō. In France, the series was distributed by Dybex, was diffused starting from the September 4th 1999 on Canal+, then repeated on Mangas.

A film was also produced in 2000. The design, slightly different, is always signed Nobuteru Yūki. The screen was re-examined, and the general treatment is darker and more adult, being delayed on the psychology of the characters (in particular Hitomi, which is depicted like an young girl depressed with the suicidal tendencies, in the search of a motivation to its existence) and Van fully assuming his statute of king with force and without fear, is given.

For its detractors, the film is only one vulgar summary of the series compressed in 1:30, intended to deaden the license and to misuse the credulity of its many fans, practices unfortunately very current in Japan (see also Films of Evangelion)
