Viry-Châtillon
Viry-Châtillon is a common French, located in the department of the the Essonne and the area Île-de-France. Its inhabitants is called Castelvirois and Castelviroises (or Viry-Châtillonais and Viry-Châtillonaise or Virois or Viroises).
Geography
Viry-Chatillon is in the department of the Essonne (91), in the area of the Ile de France.The communes bordering are Juvisy on Orge, Savigny on Orge, Morsang on Orge, Fleury Mérogis, Grigny and Draveil.
History
1093: first reference to Viry (Viriaco) and Chatillon (Castellonio) in an act of the cartulaire of longpont (Longpont-on-Barley). Viry was a parish and Chatillon a hamlet at the edge of the Seine.
1118-1137: Louis VI the Large one removes Viry and Chatillon with its enemy Hugues de Crécy, lord of Montlhéry, and attaches them to the royal field.
In 1790, Viry-on-Barley and the Châtillon-on-Seine are linked to form the current commune of Viry-Châtillon.
Viry-Châtillon becomes, in May 1909, the site of the first aerodrome organized in the world (Port-Aviation). Ferdinand Ferber, Jules Védrines and Roland Garros and all the great names of the aviation of the time comes to accomplish their first flights there. The aerodrome was even the starting point of the first overflight of Paris on October 18th, 1909 by the count of Lambert.
Currently, Viry-Châtillon accommodates the factory engines of the stable Renault F1 TEAM.

Others
The city shelters a skating rink with a team of hockey known to have been the footbridge many young people franciliens towards the professional sport. but this skating rink unfortunately burned at the time of a case of arson on Friday, May 13, 2005. The latter was rebuilt and will be inaugurated on Sunday, October 7, 2007.
