Virtual Servant boy

The Virtual Boy is a Game console video created by Nintendo and left in 1995.

History

The Virtual Servant boy , created by Gunpei Yokoi, the creator of the Range & Watch, Metroid and the Game Boy is the only true commercial failure of Nintendo. Exit after the Super Nintendo and before the Nintendo 64, in 1995 (July 21st in Japan, August in the USA), this portable console forever exceeded the Japanese and American borders, for lack of sufficient sales.

Announced in brass band at one time when the word Virtual reality was with the corner of the mouth of each and everyone, the console is presented in the form of helmet. Contrary to appearances and the idea which circulates, this helmet does not go nor does not stick around the head since it rests on a bipod, intended to be posed on a table.

Posted graphics are not composed of pixels but of kinds of diodes red. The plays were not either in 3D (except the plays Insmouse and Red Alarm ) but profited from an effect of relief thanks to the 2 screens independent of Virtual Boy. Each eye received an identical image but in very light shift what creates an effect of depth… with simple graphics 2D, neat for the majority. This known as, technology has a cost and in spite of this simple and effective concept, graphics of the plays were posted in nuances of red (5 to be precise) on black bottom. Prototypes of Virtual Boy with color screens had been tested but were too expensive and not convincing enough. Another defect, inherent in the quality from which it rises: side effects. The relief was well perceived by the brain, too even, which, according to a variable time at certain individuals, caused nauseas and other headaches. All that for the simple one and good reason which the internal ear of the human body perceives a shift between the visual direction and the other directions (hearing etc). Moreover it is notorious that to play Virtual Boy tiredness the sight, and thus forces to make regular pauses.

This said, once immersed in the play, this console offers a single experiment of play, a first lever planned for droitiers and left-handeds person, as well as a more important immersion in the ludic video universe compared to the consoles with posting on screen, the effects of depth being seizing.

List plays
